Conexus launches a tender for the installation of a gas compression unit

The unified natural gas transmission and storage system operator Conexus Baltic Grid AS (Conexus) has announced an open negotiation procedure for construction works with the aim to install a new gas compression unit at the Inčukalns underground gas storage (UGS) facility.

The planned procurement is part of the modernisation of the Inčukalns UGS, which is being carried out as part of a European investment project of common interest. The installation of the new gas compression unit is another step towards increasing the safety and operational efficiency of the storage facility by increasing the natural gas compression capacity. So far, all the preparatory work for the installation of the new gas compression unit at Inčukalns UGS Compressor Station No 1 has already been carried out.

The construction project for the unit’s installation includes the provision of delivery for some of the materials, equipment, and devices required for the construction work. The tenderers will also be required to ensure the operational testing of the new gas compression unit and its systems, the adjustment and commissioning of the facility, and to carry out the works in accordance with Latvian and European Union legislation and standards.

Tenderers have to submit their tenders for the works until 4 June this year.

It should be emphasized that 5 upgraded gas compression units were commissioned in 2023. Each of them contributes to increasing the storage capacity, reducing emissions and reducing fuel gas consumption.

In total, the Inčukalns UGS upgrade works will be implemented by the end of 2025, with a total investment of EUR 99.5 million, of which EUR 44 million is covered by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
